Cathedral Hill

  • This prominent site is home to the historic Christ Church Cathedral, at the western edge of downtown Ottawa overlooking the leBreton flats and the Ottawa River. It is a short walk to the downtown, the Parliament Buildings and the Byward Market. From its lofty perch on the western escarpment of Centretown, the site commands a sweeping view of the Ottawa River and the Gatineau Hills beyond. It is well served by local transit lines and adjacent to the linear bicycle path along the river.

  • ONE Development developed Cathedral Hill in joint venture with Windmill Development of Ottawa. Through a long term land lease, the redevelopment provides a much needed revenue source to the Church to allow it to sustain itself financially into the future. Value is added through the intensification of the site the underused surface parking lot and social hall will be replaced by a state of the art residential tower and office tower in response to current demand for well-located, high quality facilities in the Ottawa market.

Cathedral Hill continues that commitment to sustainability with a design that provides superior energy performance, water conservation, enhanced comfort and a healthier indoor environment.

  • Three historic buildings on the site - Christ Church Cathedral, Lauder Hall and Roper House - are maintained and restored. The existing courtyard adjacent to the cathedral is enlarged and enhances forms focus of the new mixed-use development which consists of street related townhomes, the residential tower and the office tower. The new buildings are designed to protect views to the Cathedral and the other historic buildings, reinforce the streetscape along Sparks and Queen Street, provide a sheltered courtyard for both the Church and the residences and maintain the principal views of the neighbouring buildings. The residential tower features a wide variety of suite types, a wintergarden and rooftop amenity space. Sustainability is built in to the building envelope design to respond effectively to seasonal solar incidence and micro-climate conditions.
