Union Lofts

Union Lofts is an ambitious adaptive re-use of the historic Perth Avenue Methodist Church in downtown Toronto. Located in the heart of the high sought after Junction area of Toronto, Union Lofts is only a short walk away from some of the city's best specialty shops and hippest night life. In addition, Union Lofts is also situated near two major TTC commuter lines (Dundas West and the Bloor Subway Line) and the award-winning West Toronto Railpath for those that prefer to bike or walk.

This inventive church conversion was rezoned by ONE Development and then development in conjunction with its partner Windmill Development. The development preserves the scale, form and massing of the original church by retaining the red brick cladding and stone detail while completely redesigning the interior. The result is a historical building with all the modern conveniences that a purchaser would expect from a completely new build.

In addition to being located within walking or biking distance to a growing number of artisanal food shops, indie cafes, and chicest wine bars, Union Lofts is built to the highest environmental standards. High efficient heating and air conditioning systems, Energy Star appliances, FCS certified engineered wood floors, and products with low VOC are a few examples of Union Lofts efforts towards to achieving LEED Platinum status - the highest accolade available in the LEED hierarchy.

While Union Lofts retains the shell of the original church, the interior was completely gutted due to the lack of any major architectural features. Windmill Development and ONE Development pulled together a triumvirate of architects and designers to help reimagine and redesign the interior of the church. The result is open floorplans with 10ft (or higher) ceilings, a focus on natural light from careful allocation of windows, and contemporary interior design using low VOC products.
